Alleem Books Awards
Who we are
“Knowledge is Power, When Applied and Shared”.
– Dr. Rashid Alleem
In the 1820s, only 12% of the global population could read and write. Over time, as societies began to recognize the transformative power of knowledge, these numbers shifted dramatically. In just the past 65 years, global literacy has surged from 42% in 1960 to 86% in 2015. Yet, despite this progress, millions around the world still lack essential literacy skills.
Today, technology has made information instantly accessible. While this has revolutionized how we live and learn, it has also led to shorter attention spans and a diminished capacity for deep focus. Reading books remains one of the most effective habits for mental growth—it nurtures focus, sharpens concentration, promotes mindfulness, enhances emotional well-being, and expands one’s intellectual horizons.
To cultivate a culture of reading and foster sustainable, positive change through knowledge, Alleem Books, a subsidiary of the Alleem Knowledge Center (a non-profit organization), was founded by Dr. Rashid Alleem. Its mission is simple yet profound: to empower individuals through reading, sharing, and applying knowledge for the betterment of society.
Dr. Rashid Alleem is a prolific author, environmentalist, philanthropist, and globally respected transformational leader. His career and personal journey are marked by inspirational milestones that have touched the lives of millions. Ranked third among the 25 most influential CEOs in the GCC, and among the top 100 CEOs in the Middle East, Dr. Alleem’s contributions have garnered international acclaim. He was named The Knowledge Ambassador of the UAE by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. His accolades include the Jewels of the Muslim World Award 2012 in Jakarta for his leadership in Islamic economics, and the title Environmentalist of the Year 2012 from the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr. Mahathir Bin Mohamad. Dr. Alleem holds five honorary doctorates and, in 2018, was awarded the title Honorary Professor by the European Business Assembly. His distinguished record also includes numerous honors for academic excellence and global business leadership.
For over two decades, Alleem Books has published Dr. Alleem’s thought-provoking works. It has also established the Alleem Books Club, a dynamic platform where readers gather to explore ideas, exchange perspectives, and engage in meaningful discussions on diverse topics.
Celebrating world book day : A tribute to the Power of Reading
Every year, World Book Day is celebrated around the globe as a tribute to the joy of reading, the power of books, and the importance of literacy. Established by UNESCO in 1995, it is held annually on April 23rd, a symbolic date that marks the deaths of both William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes, two of history’s most iconic literacy figures.
World Book Day is more than just a celebration of literature – It’s a global movement to promote reading, especially among children and young adults. On this day, school, libraries, bookstores, and communities organize events to encourage a lifelong love of books. From book swaps and storytelling sessions to author visits and storytelling sessions to author visits and costume parades, the day is filled with creative ways to bring stories to life.
In many countries, children receive free book tokens or special edition books, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to own and enjoy a book of their own. These small moments can spark big changes inspiring future writers, thinkers, and dreamers.
Books open minds. They nuture empathy, fuel imagination, and connect us across cultures and generations. On World Book Day, we are reminded of the simple but profound truth that a book can change a life.
Whether you’re a passionate reader, a casual browser, or someone rediscovering the joy of reading – pick up a book today and let it take you somewhere new.
